Spring Break (part1) and Belt Graduation

I can not take it any longer. I have to get the boys to kick the nasty habit. So I ordered a number of different products to help them in their journey as well as an incentive, yes a bribes. They have been working really hard and I am proud of them. I will make sure to take pictures of the luscious long nails when we get there! It is spring break this week and boy do we have a load of fun planned! First we started with using the oil pastels, something I never let them use because of my fear of a terrible mess. It was anti-climatic when we realized they were too much like crayons. I remember them way more messy. I wonder if they have changed. Sadly Peter came down with a fever and flu-like symptoms so monday was a tv/videogame/nap taking kind of day. Tuesday was some errands and a trip to the UW Geology Museum. The museum also has fossils, meteorites and some bones! This is a mastadon that was found here in WI and a duck billed creature! Watch out boys, that T-Rex is going to eat you! Jamison wanted to take a picture...he thought this was cool. Peter's turn for the picture. He was in heaven! calcite, Thomsonite, geodes, amethyst oh my! My favorite was when we were in the Illuminating rock room and pushed the button for the black light to come on. Peter was so excited and leaned into take a closer look at the super cool glowing rocks that he wacked his head on the glass. He was totally embarrassed even though there was no one else there. Poor guy, I think he could have spent the whole morning there! I am sure we will be going there again and again!Tonight was another big night for Jamison. Belt graduation! He gets to show off some of his skills he has been working on. Too bad his mother could not catch a kick in action....darn delay in the camera. This the the front leg round kick. And then the end of the back leg wheel kick.Way to Go Jamison!!! Look at that smile from ear to ear! We have decided to take a break from the martial arts to enjoy and take advantage of all the park and rec summer activities. Jamison would have signed up for everything in the catalog if he could. But he is learning that you cant do it all! Now some videos catching some of the action!
Here Jamison has to keep his position with out Phoenix rolling him over.
I guess Jamison thinks the stiff arm to the face is the best tactic.
Jamison was then matched up with Dixion, a little guy, Listen carefully to what sounds like a baby lion growling, that would be Dixon.
Jamison was then matched up with a blackbelt older kid, but I was sidetracked watching Mr. Tracey take on Dixon. More fun to come!

American Cancer Society-Madison 5K Run

In January I started the Couch to 5K running program as a way to stay active through the cold winter months. I signed up the the ACS Madison 5K run as a goal to complete. Since then we learned that my 3rd grade neighbor boy's cancer returned and my aunt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. So now it is no longer a personal goal of mine, I am running in honor of the battle Isaac and Lori now have to undergo. If you can, please go the website below to make a pledge.

Thank you in advance!

March madness

Not basketball madness....spring fever madness. We need green grass, warmer temperatures! Saturday was a really nice day so we took to the woods at Govenor Dodge State Park. Hiking to Stephen's Falls was a little treacherous but we made it. The water was cold! and even colder when it is in your shoe!"Hey Peter, lets climb the rocks" You dont have to ask the boys twice if they want to climb rocks. It was actually safer to climb up this way then it was to take the path! I am confused....i have a sweatshirt and there is still snow....please let spring come soon! We were not planning on doing this but we ended up shopping for bikes. Those darn boys grew too much over the winter and looked just plan silly on their old bikes. I think the boys found their perfect bike...cool colors, a little extra bling (hand break and what ever those things are that stick out of the front wheel) and oddly not as heavy as their old ones. It took Jamison a little longer to find his but the red Nascar with yellow tires seem to be the "fastest" Field testing....in the parking lots where you can make all the circles you want! Cant wait to hit the trails (which are sadly still snow covered and super muddy)

Not much grooven' except Jamison

Not much is going on lately. A couple birthday parties, some spring cleaning and a lot of fighting. I dont know if it is a boy thing but lately the boys cant look at each other with out hitting/punching/kicking etc. I am hoping it is a little spring fever because otherwise it might make for a long summer. Snow is melting...and the boys wanted to get outside...great! AND all on their own the dug out the baseball gloves and baseball and started tossing it back and forth. I was amazed! They were getting along, they started a game and they were not breaking anything. We had to capture that rare event on "film". Three minutes after this picture Jamison came in crying saying that Peter bent his fingers backwards and Peter yelled "well you slammed the door on me". So I think I was dreaming. Friday nights are game night around here! and boy do they get exciting! Imagine....a nice family game evolving to this....Oh, ya. When you dance all crazy you have to take your shirt off! I cant wait for spring when we can get outside and burn off some of this energy!

Right of Passage

Can you believe it. I have the last two first graders in the whole world that have not lost a tooth and life is unfair, or so I am told. Well, I think Jamison has been working on one of his a lot recently and I told him that I could probably yank that thing out of there. With a twinkle in his eye he said, "really?!" So I told him to think about it for a day and let me know. Well, he was ready to give it a try. He gathered all of his cuddle friends on his bed for support. The before picture. I gave it a couple tugs and it was not coming. I did not want to pull too hard or hurt it too much. So I said that we could try in a couple more days unless he want to try it. So he gave it a try, it did not come out but he reported that he heard a crack. Upon examination....something did give way so i gave it one more try and POP goes the tooth!Man, he was excited and happy! He can now join the ranks of all of his other classmates and is no longer the last 1st grader to not have lost a tooth, that would be Peter. Peter does not contain his jealousy well. In tears he admitted to hitting his teeth on the edge of his dresser in hopes that is will loosen some of his. We had to have a little talk. We assured him that his teeth will come out and that it will happen soon. And for him when it does, they will probably come out at the same time and he wont be able to eat corn on the cob. He still did not care and cried himself to sleep. poor guy. The tooth fairy now knows where we live and will probably be a frequent visitor over the next year. There are a lot of teeth to come out! She better stock up on those dollar coins!
